Just catching up with the photos and when I saw the one of the little tunnel from turner lane to wellington rd. my first thought was I'm so glad my Mum can't see the state it's in. We used to live at the first house on turner lane as you came through the tunnel and my Mum would sweep her front and the tunnel as well. It's documented in the book ' voices of Ashton under Lyne ' by Derek Southwell (?)
I used to play on the steps in your other photo of turner lane. No drinks cans and chip papers then !!

Hello Herby.

You've got me there, the only pill hall I remember (2/6d for an hour) is the one near the old fire station - this one.

Looking down Old Street, on the right hand side after the precinct, there's the Salvation Army building, the old Pavillion building, the Star pub and then the library.

As for the pictures, all I do is stand there with my brolly blown inside out and press a button :).  No hosepipe ban in this part of the world at the moment.

Hi Bill
It was next door to the Pavilion you had to go upstairs. I used to go there but they would never let me play, a couple of my mates played I was older than them but looked younger I think you had to be working or sixteen I not sure which  The fellow who ran it had only one arm cut off just below his elbow and he used a rest in the crook of his arm he was a good player tooI can't think of his name.    herby
