Hi All, If any of you use Android (Google) OS on your cell phone, dump it. Get rid of your Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail etc; Use RISEUP.NET. Your spam will disappear overnight. For your phone use something like Symbian or Bada.

It probably has more to do with websites you visit and which apps you have than which operating system you use. You can get programs that will intercept and block spam.

If you want to be completely free of spam, then the simplest way is to dump your mobile phone, laptop and computer totally. But then, the beggars will probably get you with their spam calls to your home phone line.

Very funny Bill  ;D ;D

I get very little spam in my emails, BT Yahoo is very successful in sifting the dross out and putting it in a spam box, I check it just to make sure they haven't sent anything legit there which happens occasionally. The spam I receive is usually for viagra and bank scams and the occasional begging letter, because its in my spam box I can delete the lot in one go.

Hi All, The reason I mention Android is that it is produced by Google. ANYTHING to do with Google is a BIG no no. Google is more pervasive than Microsoft ever dreamed of being. As for Spam, I have been with Riseup for years, and never once received a spam email. Spam should not be a problem for anyone on today's net. It is the lack of privacy for most net user's that is today's big problem.
How many adverts, pop-up's, and other types of rubbish, do you get with something like .Onion, answer: none. This is the way the web is moving, OPEN-SOURCE, and big Business (with most Governments) do not like it, because they have no control.
If Everybody could use TOR and IP2P or FREENET (which supports darknet and Opennet)  Imagine how free from Government and Big Business the net could be.

Just a thought........

Received an e-mail today from our "next door neighbour" stating that she was on a short-break in Spain and had been mugged. Brit Embassy and local police refused to help and requested money for flight home.
Popped round and when she answered the door I asked her if she was in Spain!!!!!
30 of her contacts from her e-mail account received the same e-mail as me.

I've been using OpenOffice (a free alternative to Microsoft's office products) for many years and have found it simpler to use than Microsoft's bloated programmes.  That said, I've recently converted to LibreOffice as it seems slightly more advanced than OpenOffice and uses British English as opposed to American English.  As with OpenOffice, it's also free.

Well, Apache is in charge of OpenOffice now, when I uograded I saw the choice of English and selected Merkun because I live here. I did see the UK English as an option.

Thanks Martin.  It would seem they've got this page wrong then.

I couldn't say, Bill. I'm still on version 3.3. The fact that it is specifically mentioned might mean that it is a temporary shortcoming. I can spell in British English, anyway, so wouldn't be fooled by any attempt to get me to spell stuff the merkin way. :)

How good are you at spotting scams?

Test your knowledge with this quiz:

http://www.opendns.com/phishing-quiz/

Click "phish" or "real" under each example. At the end it will tell you which ones were fakes ("phishes") and how it was possible to tell.

I didn't do too well, either, but then I receive my emails as plain text rather than html and would probably have ignored most of those had they arrive in my mailbox.
