Someone said on the Ashton Old Photos FB page The Hop Pole has now closed and due to be made into offices?  Another good 'watering hole' bites the dust :(  :(  Mike

This was given planning permission last April. See conditional approval.

Pegs Tavern has shut down again. In 5 years time I reckon only the very cheap bars, and good pubs who do good food will be around, like a dozen only here in Tameside !

Been brewing my own ale for over 20 years now, 45 pints for about 7.50 and 40 minutes of time each week, it's around the 7% mark so it hits the spot as well  ;)

So that's 110 pubs gone in the last 100 years!

There is a planning application in to build 2 retail units(one of them a hot food takeaway) with 2 flats above on the little car park at the side of the old Canterbury Arms pub

Raja's have now completed the purchase of the Oxford, and the licensee ( a distant friend) has bought a 10 year lease from them. His rent has gone up, but the much cheaper beer supplied by Raja's balances the rent out, everyone is happy  ;D
