It was interesting to note that in Manchester 1930 the Site of the art gallery and library was proposed where the current Piccadilly gardens were. In 1935 the library was built on Dickinson St., where it stands to this day.

The maps are quite interesting.

That's a really useful site Bill.  I have a rotten memory (unlike most here!) for where streets are in Ashton.  Should be a real help  Smiley

Yeah Jan good site have,nt lived in Ashton for over 40 years know the names of streets just can,nt place them my geography as gone a bit haywire,but Bills sorted that and post codes as well great.

 Type in Ashton under lyne, then.. .. ..

on the right there scroll down and pick your historical map.
