I don't think I have ever seen anything about the Roxy Cinema.Hurst Cross.  Used to go lot during the war years I guess it has gone now!.

It is now an ASDA, before that a Co-op, my Mother worked there as an usherette, as well as the front desk dishing out tickets. We used to get in free for the Saturday morning matinee

I remember Tommy Bennett seem to do abit of every thing  Mrs Woodcock she lived on Hope st and a good looking red head  that worked in the box office Happy Days

I only went once. When Hillary and Tensing climbed Mount Everest, a documentary film was a released and we were taken from Ashton Grammar School to see it. Clearly it was considered to be a notable event despite neither climber being British!

We used to pool our money to make 6.d(sixpence)The one chosen gets in and pushes the fire exit bar on the doors behind the doors into the theater.Tommy was ever present,but most times it was successful.
