New building names

The new council and college building will be called "Tameside One" with the Council part being named after Daniel Adamson, builder of the Manchester Ship Canal and factory owner in Dukinfield. The college part will be named after Hannah Mitchell, a suffragette and Socialist from Ashton. Work should be completed by the middle of next year with the move back in September.

I wonder if you can help, Vanessa. I'm losing track of which colleges in Tameside do what. Are we to have an additional college building despite the Clarendon sixth form unit having transferred from Hyde to the (previous) car park site opposite the old council offices on Welington Road?
PS Daniel Adamson didn't, on his own, build the Manchester Ship Canal. My understanding is that he was one of a number of eminent North West people who contributed their expertise and their money into its creation. As an engineer, he would no doubt make a massive contribution but I'm reasonably sure that he was only one of several.

I believe this college building will be concentrating on catering. I was only repeating what I was told about Daniel Adamson, I know he was a big employer in the area, but that's about it.

My apologies, Vanessa. According to Wikipedia, he was the driving force behind the venture and, although there were many other people involved, the original idea appears to have been his. Sadly, he died before the canal was completed.

I'm hoping that the building gets completed on time and budget.
Carrillion haven't got the best track record.

Carrillion also lost a £500 million contract in Oxford which knocked the share price
