My son Ian and Grandson Jacob were at the Medin Gate yesterday to lay a wreath my Uncle Ernest Bardsley was killed in the battle one 100 years ago
Ernest joined up when he was to young and was sent home from France,and went back to work at the Snipe pit till he was old enough to going back to his
mates in 2/9 Battalion Manchester Regiment  RIP

They don't make em' like that no more, stand easy young Ernest :'(
The Saxon is not like those Euros. His manners are not so polite.
But he never means anything serious till he talks about justice and right.
When he stands like an ox in the furrow--with his sullen set eyes on your own,
