Goodbye Tax Discs
« on: October 01, 2014, 10:04 AM »
From today motorists can bin their tax discs (Road Fund Licence) because Big Brother will be scanning our number plates electronically from the roadside. I've always paid my road tax and it might catch a lot of people driving illegally but it still makes me uneasy that our lives are under even more scrutiny. What do others think?

Hi SON,
Looks like it is happening world wide, the same thing is happening in Oz now, been underway for about 4 years.

Quote from The Guardian newspaper last November:-

'The government looks to have lost as much as 80m of revenue as a result of its decision to scrap car tax discs a year ago. The move has also led to a doubling in the number of unlicensed vehicles on British roads.'

I think I could have told them that!
