Isaac Barnes Funeral Undertaker in Ashton-under-Lyne
« on: December 23, 2014, 06:47 PM »
Hi all,

my great-great Grandfather, Isaac Barnes was a funeral undertaker in Ashton and also ran the Cooperation Inn. Does anyone here have any photos or documents that could be of interest to me?

Unfortunately, I have no photos or anything, except for a bill I found on tameside archive's website.

I would be very thankful if someone could help.

Thanks in advance....and..... HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

Phil

Thanks Heather!

I do have most of the census-information and was hoping that someone may have some old pictures.

As I don't live in the UK, I have to rely on the information I can find online. Unfortunately, there isn't much available.

As with many families most documents and photographs have been lost over the years and it is very difficult to get hold of the lost information.

I have managed to gather quite a lot of information, but have come to a couple of dead-ends.... It's sometimes quite frustrating!!

Philip, I have a copy of "A Directory of Ashton Pubs and their licensees" by Rob Magee (published by Neil Richardson in 1989) in which this public house is referred to as the The Corporation (not Cooperation, as Heather suggested) and not to be confused with the Corporation Arms which is situated at 286, Stockport Road.  Isaac Barnes is amongst the list of licensees and he held the licence there from 1868 until 1898. I believe, in recent times, the name of the establishment was changed to Sullivans and it now appears to have been closed for the last two or three years. However, the building is still standing.

I wondered if it was Sullivans. The census calls it Cooperation.
