Researching my Father's Youth
« on: October 21, 2014, 09:55 PM »
Hello to all Ashtonians. I am doing a bit of research into my Father's youth. He was called Ernest Ford and was born in Ashton-U-Lyne in March 1931. He saw out the war years at 62 Earl Street, Tameside with his Mother and Father. His Father worked for Rolls Royce as an Engineer, his Mother worked in one of the Cotton Mills. I don't know which school he started at but He went to Ashton Grammar, I estimate, at the age of 13-18 (I am not sure at what age students went on to further education at that time). One thing I do know, he was at AGS at the same time as Ronald Frasier the actor, as I remember him reminiscing about him. Having left AGS (assuming he was 18), he went on to University. I am hoping to find out which University from any info that might exist about his departure from AGS. If anyone can point me in the right direction or has personal knowledge of him, I would be most grateful. I live in Hampshire, so I am not, at this stage, able to access local archives. Many thanks
