what is going to keep the lights on in ten years time ?

Massive investment in Nuke Energy, while the greenies freeze to death in the dark  ;)

or..

Invade France then plug a couple of gert big long extension leads into their nucular (sic) reactors  :)

The frogs get 80% of their power from fusion plants and in my humble opinion nuclear is just about the only way forward regardless of one of my former Prime Ministers (David 'I can almost smell the uranium on your breath' Lange's) comments on the subject.  :)

From BBC...

A search is under way for a cargo ship which may (or may not) have travelled through the English Channel after apparently being hijacked by pirates.

Coastguards fear the Maltese-flagged Arctic Sea, carrying 15 Russian crew, was hijacked in the Baltic sea.

UK authorities made contact before it entered the Strait of Dover but the Russian navy told the Itar-Tass agency it was now looking for the ship.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said the situation was "bizarre".

Actually, it has only made the British news recently. In Finland it was reported a couple of weeks ago when it was hijacked off the Swedish coast by men dressed as police.

The boat is Maltese registered, (close ties with Libya?) crewed by Russians (mafia) pirated by God knows who, but for the sake of argument Russians, (again mafia).

The question that begs asking is. Why in the name of all that is holy, was a pirated ship allowed out of the Baltic and free to roam through the English Channel without the wrath of all seafaring nations descending upon it?

Next question, is it just an insurance scam, or is there some other nefarious purpose to it?
Bizarre it surely is.

Update from the Beeb

Russian navy joins hunt for ship
Russia's navy has been deployed to find a ship reportedly hijacked three weeks ago in the Baltic Sea.

Up to five vessels - reported to include nuclear submarines - will be involved in the search for the Maltese-flagged Arctic Sea, the navy confirmed.

It has a 15-strong Russian crew and was reportedly taking timber worth $1.5m (900,000) from Finland to Algeria when it was boarded by gunmen on 24 July.

The Arctic Sea was last sighted off the north coast of France on 30 July.

British authorities say the 4,000-tonne vessel may have been spotted subsequently by a Portuguese coastal patrol aircraft, but its current location remains unknown.

My bold Surely a bit over the top just looking for a small(ish) merchant vessel.

Are you saving up for the electricity bills Kiwi along with saving the lights?

Already have to save up for my electric bill , last one was NZ$350.00  that's about ₤140.00  :o, not bad for 31 days supply, so much for de-regulation of the power industry, am honestly thinking that my next home will have its own generation facility and I'll be selling power back to the national grid coz my meter will be running backwards  ;)

If ABS was originally fitted to passenger cars to enable the driver to steer round objects in the road whist nailing the brake pedal to the floor, why fit ABS to passenger trains?

Exactly where does the driver think he's going?

My home town Waipawa NZ population about 3000 has a shop, well several actually but there's one in particular that sells nothing but Xmas decorations and that sort of stuff and is open all year round. Being on a major highway it gets a bit of passing trade, it's not very well signed and I've never seen an advertisement for it in the press on the on t'interwebby, however it must be well known coz I've been in once or twice and there's always customers in there and it's been open a couple of years now. The people that own the shop also lease another shop in Hastings which has a catchment population of around 100,000 for the 3 months leading up to the silly season.

Don't tell the missus but over the years I've been secretly building up my collection of Xmas lights, so far I've got about 10 sets each with about 300 bulbs all in different lengths and I reckon by the time I retire I'm gonna have enough to cover the house in them so it can be seen from space like that movie with that bald oompah-loompah Danny de Vito in it  'Deck the Halls' I think it was  :D
