General Discussion / Whit Walks 2018

Whit Walks 2018 Yesterday well another year the walks went ahead the weather was a lot cooler and dull but the rain kept of there were 6 Churches taking part 1st St James,2nd Christ Church,3rd Albion and Christians from Hurst, 4thSt Gabriels ,5th St Michaels and 6th St Peter's. The hymns were What a friend we have in Jesus,The Lord is my Shepherd and How great thou art. the Scripture reading was from Phillippians 2 5-11 read by the Mayor Denise Ward  this year there was only one Rose Queen who was from Christ Church. The turn out this year was higher than last year and was well attend on St Michaels car Park but Not many on the walk. it was noticed that our local MP was missing again for the 2nd year running Robert Sheldon never missed a walk. next years walk will be on Sunday the 16th June 2019     Fudge

Hi Can anyone help over the last two weeks I have not been able to get on my Email or Facebook I can get on my other sites no problem but when I try to access the two above I get so far then come to a stop were my internet circle just keeps going a round it is driving me mad Fudge

I Went to a History Forum meeting yesterday and some one was saying that the Parish Church could be closing its doors soon due to only a handbill of people attending It is such a shame that a Church like that is having to close the building as been there since the 12th Century and  was built were another Church stood this is a sign of times now. In Aug 2019 it will be two hundred years since the Massacre at Peterloo. Lots of events will be taking place all over M/C and in many other places In Hyde one man was killed and over Tameside lots of people were injured Over the last few years I have been doing Joseph Johnson family tree as he was one of the speakers after finding he was the great great uncle of Canon Johnson who was a Christ Church Ashton there is a few bits not finished on it but one is I am trying to find a photo of Smedley Cottage Cheetham Hill M/C It was the home of the Johnson family Also The History Forum Group are also contributing to the event And would like to know if any one is related to any of the injured  and have had stories past down in the family and if they would mind sharing them you could always send me a private message if you don't want to share on line would be very grateful for any info Fudge

I thought I would put this on now I put it on in June but thought this year I would wait well it is 10 weeks till Christmas day if any one can down a good site with Christmas games and Advent calendar
I would be grateful I don't know were this year as gone I blinked and it was Oct looking forward to the festivities and need to get my Christmas cards sorted Fudge

I was told yesterday that the people from the Caledonia have moved to the Dog and Partridge at Waterloo and there Chefs have gone with them. There are new people in the Caledonia now. It as been confirmed and they have had some refurbishment and are up and running. I had not realised that it had closed again hope they do well with it Fudge

Well another year and the walks are still going the crowds that watch have shrunk but hope still goes on.
This year the service was led by the Revd George Reeves The Civic Mayor of Tameside Councillor Phillip Fitzpatrick and Angela Rayner MP. A short tribute was said in rememberance of Jo Cox who life was so cruelly taken. Hymn Be still for the Presence of the Lord

There were some lovely Rose Queens and plenty of bands

Tomorrow night a programme starts at 9pm on Channel BBC 4 next Thursday should have something in on Donkey Stones and the lady will be from our History Forum who talkies about them The programme is called The Cottage Dan Cruickshank At Home with the British Fudge
