If you use Cheshire BMD, the free online index, you will find all the births marriages and deaths in Ashton, under Tameside, put your father's year of birth in the search engine with his first and surname and it will show you what his mother's maiden name was. Go back to the birth index and put in both the father's and mother's surnames, use the year of your father's birth plus and minus ten years in the search engine, this will bring up all their children. Once you have a year for the eldest child go to the marriage index and search using his father's and mother's surnames, this should bring up their marriage if it took place in the area. Always remember to use the area Tameside.

Talking about Ashton / Re: New building coming along nicely

The old buildings were built by skilled workers who earned next to nothing, with no health and safety and didn't live long enough to take pride in what they had done for rich people.

The two records that are closed are of people who may still be alive, did they have children who could be these people?

The back wall of the town hall was damaged during the demolition, where the back stair case is, it left a huge crack in both the outer and inner wall.

I don't think the back wall damage has been fixed yet, I'll try and find out.

In the 1939 register on FindMyPast listed at Brampton is

Frank Wood, born 29 March 1897, occupation, manager, Muntions(that's what it says) Engines
Marion Wood, born 18 January 1896, occupation, unpaid domestic duties.
There are two closed records at the address as they may still be alive.
