I stopped posting things because I rarely got any feedback, at the most two comments, it doesn't inspire me to post, I have two pages on Facebook, one is my videos and photos of Ashton, the other is my art page and I admin an Ashton group, this forum used to be on my list to post but I often forget to, simply because of the lack  feedback, I only looked today because I needed to search for a previous subject to answer a question. I also haven't forgotten the abuse I got from certain members.

« on: March 29, 2019, 07:22 PM »
The new building is now finished and called Tameside One, the library, college and job centre have moved in, just the rest of the council offices and lastly Wilkinsons to make the move then they can finish the Civic Square in front of the town hall. By the way, the new library has been a huge success.

The college side of the new building can now be seen as the road boarding has been removed, the whole building has now been handed over to the council and the library has started to move in with an opening date of 4th March. This is a video of the college side.

I don't know of any free sites that do this, soldiers could be sent anywhere in the country, normally this would be on their pension record, when my grandfather was injured he was sent to a hospital in Suffolk, though in reality it was a large house turned into a hospital. In Ashton there was Ryecroft Hall and the building that became Heginbotton girls school on Church Street for ordinary soldiers, the house that became York House Hotel and Mottram Hall were for officers. If you give me the details I can look on Ancestry to see if there are any records for your soldier, a lot were destroyed during bombing in WW2

I have just heard that Ashtonian54, Ian, passed away on July 5th in the US, I don't know the details, but I'm sure you will all remember him as once being a big contributor on here. RIP Ian.

Only a small percentage of women are getting the bus pass, just those who were born up to November 1954, the ones really affected by the pension change were born up to 1970, I'm nearly 63 and I'm not getting one from the new mayor, I have to wait another three years for my pension when I was told I would get it at 60, my pension age has been increased twice, it's very unfair.

Talking about Ashton / Work on new building recommenced
« on: May 04, 2018, 06:39 PM »
Building work has recommenced on the new town centre building. Scottish building company, Robertsons, has taken over the project and the new finishing date is November, that is barring any major issues with previous work. Priority is being given to the college building, so it can open for the post Christmas term, Wilkinsons, so it can be open for Christmas and the job centre which should have moved in this month. Here is a short video I took today of the external work being carried out on the college building.
