My son Ian and Grandson Jacob were at the Medin Gate yesterday to lay a wreath my Uncle Ernest Bardsley was killed in the battle one 100 years ago
Ernest joined up when he was to young and was sent home from France,and went back to work at the Snipe pit till he was old enough to going back to his
mates in 2/9 Battalion Manchester Regiment  RIP

Did any one watch the the program with Craig Revel Horwood we didnt find out until the near end that some of his forefathers came from Ashton they were called Shaw, and he most have taken his clogs with him to Aus

I started work in 1946 and the firm I was working for went to Rodo brushes on Old st it was just a small shop and I only saw one man,there may have been more in the back of the shop. Come up to date and one site were the old Asda was a big blue box of a place,then down Lumb lane the same type all blue they go on for ever.and as ugly as Iker. Any one know what they make or import.

I met an old friend today not seen her for some time Jean Mac she did not come on the forum but did go out with GG Lily (old class mate) and Maud (another old class) .Jean might have been my sister in law but national Service came along Albert                                           

Memory Lane / Milk and Orange juice

Funny old world during the war as kids we were given Milk, Orange juice, and Cod liver oil in the paper last
week we were told that raw milk was bad for us unless it was treated but I dont think Mr Millin when he came round with his milk his was treated just the cows were tested for TB
Also last week we were told to much orange juice could give us skin cancer
Are we safe with Cod liver Oil ??

A recent letter from the council my address was Dukinfield Cheshire and that reply was addressed to Ashton under Lyne Lancashire. can we expect a rebate on car insurance if we have gone back into Cheshire.Some hopes

 Any body remember the troops coming back from Dunkirk 75 years ago,they came by train to Charlestown station and marched up to Whittakers Mill off Queens road.Some had uniforms some had a blanket round them
That didnt matter they were back safe.

Last night parts of Duky had no power from  6pm until 2am this morning
Gas central heating will not work and land line phones unless they are the old type.
 Any ideas how to keep warm for 8hrs

I had a letter via my G/P about a Healthy Living project that New Charter Housing are running.
I do not live in one of there houses and wonder why they are running the the project and not the Social Services
Could they be thinking about another take over???

My friend down South had a new boiler put in week last by a big British firm that also supply gas.he was very happy  when all his radiators were working. But at weekend when came to use his oven a jet of water came out of the burner.He phoned the company and they will come back this week but turn all the gas off.What a great service.

My son and grand son have just finish the End to End bike ride Lands End to John O Groats with 8 others plus the back up crew
in aid of Mind Charity and I am very pleased with them. Albert

I see that Dukinfield as a new policeman to serve the the Dukinfield ward as they call it. When I came to live in Dukinfield in 1954
 we had an police Inspector 3 sergeants and about 20 policemen that did 3 shifts.Plus a police station which was manned now we have a police "post" much like the old blue boxes with a telephone and you wait for ages before the phone is answered.Progress
