      The lounge Cake shop was opposite the old arcades next door to them church I lived in Church st behind the old  arcades
we used the to go under there when there was an air raid for awhile, then we stayed in bed.  herby

             I /ll  bet the houses besides the Ashton football ground  on Lees road are still standing I started work for Wilf Plant as an apprentice brick layer in 1946 and I still remember the bloody snow and how cold it was .Brick layers don't work with anything only trowels hammers chisels  lines a spirit level. and a sense of humor     herby

      Can anybody remember the tippler toilets they used the water from the kitchen sink strait into the drain pipe They b
were a good idea but in winter when you were on the toilet and some was using the sink you got hit with blast of cold air and that made you rise very quickly. Still the good old days.

        I remember going to Belle Vue  with my brother on roller skates on  the third September 1939 and the woman on the entrance wouldn't let us in, it must of been about 11 o clock because she said get back to your mother they've just declared war. I yelled I want to see the bloody monkeys She said you'll be seeing bloody stars if you don't stop swearing. That's the only thing I remember about the war starting.       herby

          I watched the match on telly. what's the matter with United. They don't know how to pass almost every one they made in first half went  to a city player and that player with the big mop of hair wants sending wonder Sir Alec was shaking his head.        herby

              Pandemonium here this morning four grand kids the oldest ten and Mum and Dad stayed over night so you can imagine what time we got up 3 30 first alert then continuous noise still going strong  about to sit down for a traditional  Christmas dinner.  Air conditioner going full blast. 38 outside 28 inside. I hope you all get what you wish for I got a pair of shoes and from the kids a Literacy tool kit ages 8 to 12years old They know I like crossword puzzles. Kids Love em.  herby

                 Welcome to the club. I'm waiting to have my left hip replacement. I 've already had two knee replacements and three hip replacements on my right hip the first was screwed into my pelvis came loose and put a hole in it. The second also came loose, after a while you will get used to it.     herby
