Title: Where is the DSS office ?
Post by: Kiwi on March 02, 2014, 07:58 PM
Need a bit of a hand, my Mum wants to advise the pension people that they no longer have to pay me stepfather any more due to him shuffling off his mortal coil, running down the curtain and joining the choir invisible  :-\ had a quick google and all I can find is an 0845 (which costs) number or that a visit to the citizens advice bureau is needed, so I'd like to know how do you actually get to speak to somebody at the DSS ?.

Try Job Centre Plus on Old Street in Ashton town centre. I think it all comes under the umbrella of DWP (the Department of Work and Pensions).

Hi

There is a scheme called Tell us once. The registrar gave me a reference number with the death certificate. You can then call the Department for Work and Pensions on 0800 085 7038. Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm free from BT lines or register on line www.gov.uk/tell-us-once
I was able to cancel things like driving licence, passport, tv licence, pensions etc

Hi Kiwi you also need to tell the local council, when my wife died we found that differant departments do not speak to each other
There are rebates to be had but I had to start paying income tax, so what they give with one hand they take with the other.
