Title: Is there ANYBODY who wasn't at it during the 70's ?.
Post by: Kiwi on May 06, 2013, 10:57 PM
Tarby (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2320419/Now-police-quiz-Jimmy-Tarbuck-Comedian-arrested-alleged-sex-attack-young-boy-1970s.html) is the latest, so along with Freddie Starr, Jim Davidson, Rolf Harris, Bill Roache, Stuart Hall, and Max Clifford to name but a few, the prison panto looks like it'll be a cracker this year and it'll add a new dimension to "He's behind You !".  ;)

Don't forget that in many cases these are allegations. Innocent until proven guilty?

Very good point, the other strange thing is why are the allegations only coming to light in some cases 40 years after the event(s) ??, Maybe the alligators (sic) can smell the cash cow ??  :-\

Personally I don't think money is behind the surge in allegations. The big difference nowadays is that victims have the confidence to speak out, knowing they will be taken seriously and have their allegations investigated. It's unfortunate that many of the allegations are 'historic' and may be difficult to prove without witnesses or confessions.

In the past and not so distant past, women were reluctant to come forward to make accusations of sexual assault because they feared their allegations would not be taken seriously. In the jimmy Saville case many of the women said that once it became cear that the police were investigating, that ave them the courage to speak up. Another factor is that being sexually abused can make women and men feel ashamed .....as though it's their fault and ' they must have asked for it'

Meg is spot on.  Lots of girls in the 60s despite Women's Lib were still tarred with being complicit and for putting themselves in the situation in the first place. Reputations could be ruined and some boys were quite vile bullies at the time.

Newsflash - "Debby Harry is the latest star to be questioned by police, its alleged that she caused 1000s of teenage boys to abuse themselves in the late 70s".

Where do I line up for some compo.  ;)

How's that ?, different people handle abuse in their own way and isn't revenge best a dish best served cold ?. I suffered physical abuse at primary school from an older girl, even the teachers were afraid of her (and her family), did anybody do anything about it ?, did they heck as like. However I did feel slightly elated about 18 years later driving the prison van taking her to Risley Remand Centre to await transfer to a Women's Prison to start a lengthy sentence  ;)

Reminds me of the Nelson twins!
Always wondered which prison they ended up at.

No, sorry, I was just thinking that, in this different climate, it's become easier to "come out" so to speak and tell the truth.
Presumption of innocence doesn't mean to me that they didn't do it. Anyway the police wouldn't arrest you if you were innocent.

listening to evidence so far in the case of Michael Le Velle from Corrie is horrific, if true, but doesn't sound like the evidence a six year old would make up.

Just spotted this in the window of the Cabin....

Things are looking so grim on Coronation Street now, that pretty soon, the only man left on it will be Hayley!!

A consequence of all these alleged pervs being unmasked is that anything they appeared in over the years is going to be out-of-bounds as far as repeats are concerned. We've already seen that on Top Of The Pops. The impact on shows like Corrie and anything a certain Australian artist/singer appeared on will be enormous.

In NZ we're about 2 or 3 years behind the episodes of Corrie that are being aired in the UK so I s'pose it begs the question as to whether or not TVNZ will at some time in the future feel it necessary to edit out some stories involving certain actors who may or may not be guilty of being very naughty at some stage in their pasts  :-X

As for the aging wobbleboard player, he's always been about as popular as a fart in a spacesuit this side of the Tasman  :)

Hmmm.... We get episodes of Corrie here in Australia within 24 hrs of them being aired in UK.... you just need to know where to get them.  But, Kiwis are always way-behind - with most things eh?
